Meet Anthony and Jono, Sons of Frank.
Could it be the free canapés between 4pm-6pm Wednesday through Saturday, or the innovative interpretation of my favourite, the classic ‘steak & eggs’ – whatever the reason, everybody’s talking about Son of Frank.
Nestled on the Green Park end of Victoria Street, Son of Frank is owned by brothers Anthony and Jonathon Canturi, both seasoned hospitality professionals. Between them they’re been serving up creative cuisine at Sydney’s coolest venues including est. Eau de Vue, The Apollo and Cho Cho San.
Meet brothers, Jono and Anthony
“The brothers have also mastered the challenging art of an all day food service, offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and the recently launched aperitivo hour. Creating the menu, atmosphere and environment for each service is key to ensure each offering shines on its own.”
The Vibe – The morning mood is relaxed and the light-filled courtyard is the perfect place to enjoy a long brunch, which you can turn into a two hour bottomless affair. At lunch time the pace heats up with a cool local clientele. As aperitivo hour approaches, the ambiance changes to a sophisticated Son of Frank as it prepares to welcome locals to dinner.
The Food – this is no ordinary menu, it has been carefully designed and is highly original. I always start with their twist on the Bloody Mary, appropriately named “Bloody Frank” – it is as savoury as it is moorish, and lends itself perfectly to the brunch menu. The humble croissant has also been reinvented, stuffed with chilli scrambled eggs and harissa, you can add nduja (something for you to google) for an extra kick. My go-to for weekend brunch has to be the steak & eggs, the skirt steak is cooked medium and served under scrambled eggs topped with cheese hollandaise and grilled onions, it is something else! The Italian influenced dinner menu is a stunner and features pastas, along with beautifully prepared vegetable creations, brisket and my dinner favourite, veal cotoletta with brown butter, capers, sage, so tender you can cut it with a spoon!
The Service – Anthony and Jonathon have created a relaxed atmosphere that oozes authenticy and coolness. Whilst the name suggests Son of Frank, you’ll also see Frank’s daughter helping out her brothers from time to time. There is a wonderfully warm family feel that takes you to a very happy place.
Son of Frank is open 7am-4pm Monday – Tuesday, 7am till late Wednesday – Saturday, and 8am-3pm on Sunday. The 4 course bottomless brunch is $70 per person for two hours and comes with rose, momosas or aperol and campari spritz’.
